REBEKAH KO

Much of Seattle-based marimba artist Rebekah Ko’s early career has been focused on merging her passion for percussion with mountain biking and her desire to serve her community. Her rigorous background, including as a member of the renowned Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps and a student at the University of North Texas, won her numerous honors and acclaim. In 2016, Ko was recognized as an exceptional emerging artist and awarded as a winner of the 2016 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition. Invigorated by the challenge of pushing the marimba into unfamiliar territory, Ko is currently embarking on a number of percussion chamber ensemble iterations focused on experimentation and creativity. Longing for an opportunity to combine her musical interests with her love of biking and public service, Ko also works as the director of community resources for Bike Works, a Seattle nonprofit organization focused on building resilient communities through sustainable transportation.
