Ng Jing Kai Performed With Dad At Singapore Junior Original Concert (SJOC) 2017

9-year-old Ng Jing Kai was very excited when he was told that his composition was selected for SJOC 2017. He could sense that his parents were very proud of his composition, and that made Jing Kai very happy. The composition, Break of Dawn, was an arrangement for piano and guitar – Jing Kai played the piano and his dad, Mr. Ng Shu Hann, played the guitar.

This was Jing Kai’s first time performing on the grand piano before a large audience, so he was very nervous. Fortunately, his dad was with him, so that made him feel better.

We asked Jing Kai about his music lessons at Yamaha, and here’s what he said:

I enjoy learning music and making music with my friends in my Junior Special Advanced Course (JSAC) class. Playing together makes the experience much more fun and rewarding.

We also asked his dad, Mr. Ng for his impression of SJOC and lessons at Yamaha, and he shared:

The SJOC showcases students’ original compositions, many of which I thought were of pretty high standard, both in terms of musical ideas and execution in performance, so that was great. I like and appreciate the fact that Yamaha’s music programs focus a lot on nurturing the students’ appreciation of music and not just on developing their technical abilities.
