Amanda Ang Min Shan Performed With Dad At Singapore Junior Original Concert (SJOC) 2017

9-year-old Amanda’s composition was selected for SJOC this year. Entitled Street Carnival, the piece was an arrangement for piano and violin. Amanda was the pianist and her dad, Mr. Ang Chek Meng was the violinist.

We asked her about the SJOC experience and here’s what Amanda shared:

This is my second composition, so I was happy and excited when I was told that it was chosen for SJOC. It’s my first time composing a duet. I was glad my dad was performing with me, as I was nervous. With dad, I felt less nervous.

We also asked about her music lessons at Yamaha, and she replied that she likes music lesson time, that it’s fun to listen to her friends and play together as a group. She enjoys it a lot, she said.

We then asked Amanda’s dad, Mr. Ang, to share his impression of SJOC, as well as music lessons in Yamaha. Here is Mr. Ang’s reply:

The SJOC just reaffirms my beliefs that Singapore children are creative and talented. I think this reflects very well on the quality of teaching and guidance of the very well trained and dedicated Yamaha teachers! The students not only created interesting and varied compositions but performed to a high level too! Something the whole music industry in Singapore can be proud of!
