Selected for the 2009 JBA Shimotani Shorei Award.

This piece was commissioned by the marching division 'Yamaguchi 2006' during the 2006 National Cultural Festival. The first performance had college students performing in conjunction with the marching bands from junior and senior high schools. While composing the song, my friend heard the ending melody and expressed his wish to play this piece, hence giving birth to this symphonic band version.

The bolero ending of the marching version has been changed and the percussion used is also different.

The title is referring to the spirit of bravery and the piece has four parts - Prelude, Melancholy, Conflict and Pride, to portray the dignity of samurai and knights.

This piece was first performed on 27 Jan 2008 by the Fukuoka Kogyo University Symphony Band.
