Chaser

This is a new song that I made for CAFUA selection, 2005. Until now I have been writing compositions for large formation brass bands, but this time I have written a one for a small formation of grade 2.5-3 level.
The melody starts with fanfare and flows through the midsection before rushing to a 5 beat Allegro. From there, the fanfare portion re-appears and ends with a short coda using the motif of Allegro. The melody is inlaid with organic combinations of transforming motif of fanfare and the motif in the midsection.

The composition of the fanfare portion consists of 3 general chords and poly-chords. The midsection and Allegro employs 4 degree harmony and cessation methods that resemble the medieval time architecture of Ars Antica. In addition, there is a portion which models intertwined plural melodies with a 4 degree musical interval. As there is a function harmonic performance portion it is essential to be cautious. That said, this piece can be performed by even a band with elementary level finger techniques and singing range because it allows you to take time to pursue the music content and to get a unique pitch.

In addition, the title “Chaser” was suggested by the director of the first recording of this song Mr. Kayo. I would like to take this opportunity to convey my heartfelt gratitude to him who also became my godparent.
