Yamaha Junior Course Years 3-4 (Junior Extension Course - JXC)

Age range: 6-7 years old (For 2nd year graduates of the Yamaha Junior Course)

In the 3rd and 4th years of the Yamaha Junior Course, focus is placed on developing the technical and expressive performance skills of each individual student. The multi-faceted teaching approach means that students develop the skills to learn together as a group, as well as being motivated to learn many repertoire pieces independently. Along with these performance skills, students are also taught more developed ensemble, keyboard harmony and aural skills.

The students not only learn how to play music written by others, but are also taught the technical, analytical and expressive skills required to be able to create their own music. Students are eligible to sit for a Yamaha Grade Examination each year, where their performance and musicianship skills will be assessed.

Junior Ensemble Course

Age range: 8-10 years old (For Yamaha Junior Course Graduates)

The Junior Ensemble Course aims to work on the ensemble playing of the students as they will start to play more advanced ensemble pieces that requires good chemistry between each other.

Students will also learn new subjects such as transposition and improvisation. These musicianship skills are vital in being a flexible musician. From there, they begin their composition journey that explores their own musical style and musical language while also exploring different genres of music that will assist them in their improvisation and composition.
