About Yamaha Music School
Spreading the Joy of Music Since 1954
The philosophy of Yamaha Music School is “To foster the musical sensitivity that everyone is born with, to develop the ability to enjoy creating and playing the music of their own and ultimately share the joy of music with anyone.”
Founded in Japan in 1954, Yamaha Music School has over 3,500 locations throughout the world. Since its foundation, more than 5.5 million students have learned music in our schools and are cherishing and enjoying the gift of music for their whole life. By learning music, people grow and acquire the ability to express themselves and connect with other people. We believe that is key to enriching life.
Yamaha Music School started in Japan under the leadership of Genichi Kawakami, President of Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd (current Yamaha Corporation). He held a strong conviction that the company was responsible not only for producing high-quality products but also for educating customers on how to use and enjoy the products, which led to the 1966 establishment of Yamaha Music Foundation (YMF) with the purpose of promoting music education and popularizing music globally. YMF today guides the development of Yamaha music education system and also supports international events such as the Junior Original Concert (JOC).
Network Across the World
Since the establishment of Yamaha Music School in Los Angeles, USA in 1964, the network has spread to Latin America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East and now over half a million students learn and experience the joy of music in more than 40 countries and regions. While harmonizing with the unique cultures and nationalities of different countries, we firmly maintain our founding philosophy of music education and continue our activities based on the established trust in Yamaha.
