From the First Note to a Lifetime of Music
Where a Child’s First Note Becomes a Lifetime of Music
From the First Note to a Lifetime of Music
Together with Singapore for 60 Years
The rapid rise of artificial intelligence is reshaping how our societies function and how education is delivered. In such an era of rapid technological change, qualities that are uniquely human — sensitivity, creativity and the ability to collaborate — are becoming even more important. Music education plays an essential role in nurturing these qualities. In 1968, Yamaha Music School began its journey in Singapore — just two years after the company’s founding. Over the past 60 years, generations of children have encountered music, learned through it and grown alongside it.
Learning Together: The Value of Group Learning
At the heart of Yamaha’s philosophy is the experience of listening, feeling and creating music together. Through group lessons and ensemble learning, children develop not only technical skills but also creativity, cooperation and expressive ability. By listening to others and understanding their role in music, children gain a rare and valuable learning experience — one that remains essential even in an AI-driven world.
Listening and Creativity
Another key element of Yamaha’s music education is the development of listening ability and creativity. Children learn not only to play music, but also to listen carefully, understand musical structures and express their own musical ideas. Through programmes such as the Junior Original Concert (JOC), students are encouraged to create and present their own music, nurturing imagination and confidence. These experiences help children develop musical sensitivity that goes far beyond technical training.
Learning Through Performance
At Yamaha Music School, we believe that performance is an important part of musical growth.
This March, we introduced the Milestone Concert, where students perform on stage at key stages of their learning journey. Before completing the second year of the Yamaha Junior Course (Junior Music Course) or Primary Course (2–3), students perform together on stage as a group. This concert celebrates their first milestone in making music together. Performing helps children recognise their progress and build confidence through music.

From their fourth year onward, students may also participate in the Young Star Ensemble Concert, where they perform together with their peers. Making music with others offers a unique joy and learning experience that solo performance alone cannot provide.

A Lifelong Journey with Music
Many students also continue their musical journey through individual piano study after completing Yamaha’s early childhood programmes. Even then, we actively provide opportunities for concerts and competitions so that students can pursue music with clear goals and motivation. Learning at Yamaha is more than an extracurricular activity. The time parents and children spend attending lessons together and celebrating each stage of growth often becomes a treasured family memory. Music, in turn, becomes a lifelong companion that enriches a child’s life far beyond the classroom.
As we mark 60 years in Singapore, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the many students and parents who have trusted and supported Yamaha’s music education over the years.
With sincere appreciation, Yoshinori Sasaki Managing Director YAMAHA MUSIC (ASIA) PRIVATE LIMITED March 2026
