Biography

Jeremy started learning the clarinet during his secondary school days. Because of his passion for music, he went to the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) to pursue his music education. He obtained his Diploma of Music Performance (Orchestra studies). He studied with SSO assistant principal, Tang Xiao Ping.

After his national service, he went on and pursued his Bachelor of Music at Robert Schumann Hochschule Duesseldorf under Professor Ulf Rodenhaeuser, ex-Principal of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Bavarian Radio Orchestra and also under Professor Kerstin Groetsch, Principal of the 'Neue Philharmonie NRW'.

In 2019, he attained his Master of Music at the Leopold Mozart Zentrum Augsburg under Professor Harald Harrer. Apart having lessons under Prof. Harrer, he also had regular lessons by Bettina Aust, who is the principal of Augsburger Philharmoniker, also by Stefan Jank, principal of the Staatsorchester Stuttgart and by Manfred Preis, Bass Clarinetist of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Lessons/Masterclasses/Workshops that he had attended: by Professor Wolfgang Meyer (Karlsruhe) (where he gained extensive knowledge on reed preparation and adjustment), Professor Andreas Langenbuch (Duesseldorf), Professor James Campbell (USA), Professor Laura Ruiz (Frankfurt), Professor Thorsten Johanns (Weimar), and Professor Nobert Kaiser (Stuttgart). He also had the priviledge to receive chamber music tutelage under Professor Ulf Rodenhaeuser, Professor Gustavo Nunez (Solo-Bassoonist of RCO), Professor Kai Frombgen (Oboe), Professor Georg Frederich Schenck (Piano), Professor Juergen Kussmaul (Viola) and Michael Denhoff (Chamber Music).

Jeremy also played in the SNYO, Windstars Ensemble, Orchestra Collective, Singapore Lyric Opera, Junge Blaeserphilharmonie NRW, Orchesterzentrum NRW Dortmund and Neusasser Chamber Orchestra. He is a keen chamber musician, who has performed many beautiful chamber works from Mozart, Weber, Brahms, Wellesz, Dvorak, Bruch, etc.

He won the NAFA concerto competition in 2009 together with clarinetist Ivan Ng and also won 2nd Prize in the 2nd Flute Festival Ensemble Competition 2011 with friends flautist Daniel Bonaventure Lim and pianist Thomas Ang. Together with his string quartet, they were at the final round in the 2016 Schmolz-Bickenbach Chamber music Competition.

After his studies and moving back to Singapore in 2019, Jeremy was again being engaged for clarinet tutoring in many schools/institutions, ranging from Primary schools to NUS and to SAF Bands. Also, he performed with Joshua Tan (Conductor) in a Don Pasquale opera in 2019. He also performed for Musicians' Initiative (MI) back in 2020 before Circuit Breaker and also in 2021 together with the THE Trio. He is also often being engaged to perform or record together with the NAFA Wind Ensemble.

As of 2020, he is the main instructor for St. Gabriel's Secondary School Concert Band (his alma mater). Jeremy plays on a pair of Yamaha CSG III clarinets and Vandoren mouthpiece, reeds and ligatures.
